Differences in Diabetes Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

Differences in Diabetes Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes - Although both associated with excess sugar in the blood, diabetes type 1 and 2 had some very fundamental difference. The causes are very different, treatment and prevention can not be equated with it.

Differences in Diabetes Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

The first difference lies in the age of the patients when first diagnosed. Type 1 diabetes is more common in patients under the age of 20 years so it is often called juvenile onset, whereas type 2 attack aged 35 years and over, or so-called adult onset.

The use of the term juvenile onset and adult onset is now removed, because in fact type 1 and 2 diabetes can strike at any age. Only, the trend is still the same: one type is more common in young age and type 2 diabetes in old age.

Next is the posture and stature infected. Patients with type 1 diabetes generally have thin physique, whereas type 2 diabetes is more common in large-bodied people who are categorized overweight (overweight) and obesity.

Diabetes Type 1 and 2 are also distinguished by the cause. Type 1 diabetes is caused by damage to the pancreas and insulin production is reduced, while type 2 is caused by insulin resistance in the sense enough insulin but it does not work well in controlling blood sugar levels.

Due to different causes, treatment of both types of diabetes is also not the same. People with type 1 diabetes require insulin by injection or insulin pump while type 2 diabetes patients consume enough oral medication or drug ingested.

Type 1 diabetes is less predictable and preventable, cause a genetic disorder inborn. As with type 2 diabetes are highly preventable, because it usually strikes people with unhealthy diets and less exercise.

Judging from the ratio of the number of cases, type 1 diabetes include 10-15 percent of the total number of people with diabetes. Quoted by ABC News, on Monday (20/2/2012), the number of cases of type 2 diabetes, especially in the developed and developing countries reached 85-90 percent of all people with diabetes of all types.
